I've nothing much to compare Old Man's War to that's similar or in the same genre. Before I even begin to rant about Old Man's War, the debut Sci-Fi novel by John Scalzi, I just want to say that I enjoyed reading this novel immensely. This review is of the first 10 books in the series as the last 3 are not yet available. Old Man's War by John Scalzi Rating: 4/5. According to his own website, John Scalzi is best known for a series of books that started with Old Man's War. John Scalzi's Old Man's War is a sack of Dick's. The Human Division is something different, it is a collection of 13 short stories that take place in the "Old Man's War" universe. When you turn 65 years of age you have the option to join the military. Anyone who has lived in Seattle, or even many who have passed through, have probably seen some Dick's. I'd never read anything by John Scalzi, who comes highly recommended, so I chose to start with Old Man's War, which proved an easy and entertaining entry point for his brand of science fiction and character development.
